Herbarium

You know what? i love to catalog things. So one day I might work as a taxonomist and work in the herbarium. One thing disappointing about the herbarium (which, by the way, keeps dead samples of plants) is the way the plants are processed to get kept. Its very crude. The plants are just flatted and baked and glued on to a piece of acid-free paper with P.V.A glue and wa la! You've got a herbarium sample. I thought like it is like framed or something or at least laminated but its not. Everything's exposed to the surroundings (don't worry, its treated with mercuric chloride to prevent things from eating it). I was like kept pestering Dr Koh for a sample of my favourite plant Catheranthus roseus (periwinkle) till he got quit anooyed (which is rare)

TXP made me aware the normal plants that you walk past every single day. Now I start to notice these little beauties and call them by their scientific names. It is really embarassing to find one stretch of orchard road has more plant species in our plant list as compared to the botanical gardens. Me, Waina, Amalina and Nora went down the road for the purpose of luch and ended up taking alot of photos on the way because the plant which we want is just alongside us! We take and take till Nora cannot take it anymore and wanted to eat. Then we went back to that same stretch of road and take even more plants. Really amazing. I will never ever not notice the orchard road road ever again (yes, there is 2 roads. No spelling mistakes there).

The taking of photos is one thing, cataloging them for our TXP project is another. 30 plants, some which we do not know but know that it exist due to our Holy Grimore the '1000 Garden Plants in Singapore'. The task of cataloging them entrusted to me. It is an eye breaking job which made me want to scream out loud (did I really scream out loud? I don't know, ask my mom). As I am typing this I'm supposed to get them in powerpoint slides, so here I go now.

My CATS people are crap. Why? last minute then tell e 'oh sorry we have hockey so inconvenient for us to bring computer'. All I can say is go to hell. The deadline is freakin hell tomorrow and here they are so lax about it. I pray Mr Yong is magnanimous enough to extend the deadline. If not I'm doomed. Worries worries worries.

The Initial D VCD my bro bought sucks. The english subtitles stink. It is the direct translation of the chinese subtitle. For example, 'how siang' becomes good elephant.
Cheers.
