Arty Farty

I got a boost on art interest recently since Fate blessed me with many different sources. Some of those interesting ones include:

David Cerny
This guy is amazingly talented. I get so inspired just by looking at his works. They are all very dada and surreal and that's exactly what I love about them. They really catch the attention of people. That's what I want my work to be in the future. To catch the attention of people.

Some of his works are:
Photobucket
This is 'Babies' at This must have looked extremely creepy on site. The building is totally integrated into the 'canvas' of the sculpture and that's really what's great about Mr Cerny.

Photobucket
This is his work 'Entropy'
There's a really childish nature to his works but at the same time they bring in real world issues into the context. Unfortunately if you go there now you wouldn't find it anymore. They removed it already as it tackled too sensitive issues.

A sculpture by him found in Futura Gallery. Again another thought invoking piece.

Photobucket
'Metamorphosis', a fountain. Its at South Carolina.

For more David Cerny, see his official site and David Černý art activism.

The next thing that intrigued me was a competition/festival thing called World of Wearable Art. Its a totally cool competition and all the pieces are so baroque and dada. The amazing thing is that they are totally wearable. Some notable examples are:

Photobucket

Photobucket
Miss February 2004 by Toy Murchie, Golden Bay. A stunning neon effect piece that is so ethereal and stunning. I truly believe now that the human imagination and creativity are boundless.

Photobucket
Ornitho Maia by Nadine Jaggi from Wellington. And amazingly crafted masterpiece that really brings out the beauty of all the materials used. It does not look gaudy but in fact looks chic and amazingly stunning.

Photobucket
Puppet Master by Kelly Kuipers from Nelson. A dada piece that gets your brain juices running in circles.

Photobucket
Another amazing piece. This is 'A Weavers Tale' by Rodney Leong and I thing it really brings out the texture of the materials, as well as the body of the female. Both the material and the model are showcased, unlike some pieces of work that really doesn't care about the models.

They also have a 'creative bra' competition where they make all kinds of wacky bras that are, like these full body works of art, amazingly costume-ish and insane, yet metaphorically sound.

Ops is ending soon! Soon I can go out with my platoon peeps once more! Looking forward to the drinking sessions!
