Crazy For Snowballs

My friends would know that my ultimate favourite cocktail is a Snowball. Its base alcohol is Advocaat, which can definitely beat Tequila in my list of favourite alcoholic drinks. It is the reason for my fascination with liqueurs and their likes. Wherever places that has a bar I go I wuld most certainly order a Snowball. i think it has some sort of soothing effect on me before I get on more stronger liqueurs.

Erm for those who are already lost, here are some terms for my non drinking friends.

A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage that has been flavored with fruit, herbs, nuts, spices, flowers, or cream and bottled with added sugar.
Advocaat (or advokat) is a rich and creamy liqueur made from eggs, sugar and brandy. It has a smooth, custard-like flavor.
Snowball: a mixture of advocaat, sparkling lemonade and sometimes lime juice, although this is not required for the drink.

No wonder I love Snowball when I tasted it. Its eggish taste is totally addicting. Though too much it sometimes will taste like Pandan Cake. The first Snowball I drank is the sprite version where there is no lemonade added but instead sprite is given, giving it an even sweeter taste. That version has since become my most favourite version, since I totally hate sour things.
The reason why Snowball is called a snowball because it is often customary to foam the drink, either by pouring the lemonade or sprite damn fast, or stirring the mixture to create bubbles (thus the 'snowball' look). Sometimes sugar is placed on the edge of the drink for the 'ice' effect, though it makes me sick. When properly mixed it becomes pure white in colour, a friend once said it looks like I'm drinking cum, but hey, thats somewhat the appeal) making it really snowball looking. Though there is the other version where it is not so thoroughly mixed and it remains it base Advocaat colour, which is eggish yellow.

In fact, I am so into Snowballs now that I think I'll go Snowball month on December, where I'll buy a bottle of Advocaat (which can be as hard as finding a KFC in the Amazon.) and mix it at home. Experiment and who knows perhaps I'll make some new cocktails and win next year's Singapore's cocktail competitions? Muahahaha.
